MIGRAIN: Narrative

 1. An example of a film or tv show is the Avengers film. This is because the film starts in a world that is sort of balanced but there is a disequilibrium when Loki arrives. Then the avengers fight the Chitahuri and Loki, and ends with the world returning to a balanced state.

2.  Breaking bad opening scene

This scene shows the narrative of the story as it establishes the two main characters of the story, Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. The fact that they are in a dessert setting in an rv also shows one of the main locations of the show as this dessert is a repeated location that we see several times. The use of the props of the rv also is a repeated vehicle that we see in the show as it is where the two main characters do there work. The fact that Walter is wearing a gas mask and is driving whilst Jesse is unconscious at the back could symbolise how Walter is the driving force throughout the show and will lead to Jesse to do whatever he wants.

3. Captain America, Ben 10, Iron Man

4. An example is Dexter and Brian Moser from the Dexter series. This is because Dexter is a killer that follows a strict code to make himself only kill people that deserve it meanwhile, Brian Moser is an example to Dexter of what could happen if he doesn't follow the code. This opposition leads to Dexter killing Brian despite being his brother because in conclusion, Brian fits the code by killing innocent people.

5. When the policeman captures the criminal in a crime drama, the ideology of the value of law and order is emphasised.

6. It makes the audience curious as to how the problem will be solved through the actions that the characters will take.

7. episodic narrative- a show that has a problem that gets concluded in one episode.

overarching narrative- A story that is used and developed throughout multiple episodes or even until the end of a season or series.

Mixed narrative- When a show uses both episodic narratives and an overarching narrative. Small conflicts can be done within one episode whilst there still being an overarching narrative. An example is the mentalist with red john being the overarching narrative but each episode being self- contained.

Multi-strand overlapping narrative- When a show focuses on different characters throughout the show therefore is no "ending" to the narrative. An example is creeped out on Netflix as each episode revolves around different teenagers.

8. Adverts typically set up a problem that the audience can relate with and then immediately use their products as a solution to that problem to make customers buy it. For example bad breath is the problem and toothpaste is the solution.
